Applebee's Breakfast Fundraiser a Blessing

lead image

Teachers, board members, moms, dads, students and the Principal (and Mrs. Principal!)worked hard together to feed approximately 250 people in two hours at the Applebee's restaurant in Bemidji. We met our fundraising budget for this event (yeah!!!). Under the coordination of Carla Mandrell at the door and Alyce Daline in the kitchen, the Heartland team worked like a well-oiled machine to greet, seat, feed and clean-up after enthusiastic guests who were pleased to help support our school.

Spring Must be Coming...

lead image

Here at Heartland Christian Academy, a sure sign that the Vernal equinox (Spring) must be on its way is when Norm Johannsen snowblows and shovels the 20 inches of snow off the basketball court! The first step, of course, was FINDING the basketball court. Thank you, Norm, for getting things ready for when the skating rink is no longer usable. One good thing is that the high snow banks should prevent a lot of out of bounds basketballs!

Jamaican Believers Visit Heartland

Pastor Philemon and Olga Samuels and their lead drummer Maria shared a chapel service this week after coming to the Northland all the way from Montego Bay, Jamaica, where they serve the church through Fresh Bread Ministries. Maria and Olga led in spirited, Christ-honoring songs with a Jamaican flavor. Brother Philemon then brought a word of encouragement to the children, describing the potential that God has placed in each boy and girl, just like the potential of a whole forest of trees is found in a single, small seed.

Seussical the Musical is a Hit!

As an "end of quarter reward," Heartland students (grades 1-8)attended the "Seussical the Musical" show on Friday, February 12th at noon at the Bemidji High School Auditorium. The show featured favorite Dr. Seuss book characters including the Cat in the Hat, the Grinch, Horton the Elephant, Gertrude McFuzz, the Whos from Whoville and Dayzie. The show featured high school and middle school students from the Bemidji area, including our own (locally loved and famous)Hannah Allen. Thank you, Mrs. Allen, for arranging for a wonderful event!

Skate-a-Thon a Big Success

Heartland skaters and guests had a wonderful time at the Neilson-Reise arena in Bemidji raising funds for their school. Guests included Phil and Dennis from QFM Christian radio in Fosston who provided the contemporary Christian music and contributed prizes. Darrin Adams, as manager at Perkins, contributed the yummy hot chocolate and coffee (it was cold on the ice!). The BSU women's hockey team was a big hit, with some players coming back again with good memories of helping young skaters last year.
