New Board Members Confirmed at Association Meeting
On Thursday, May 20th, representatives from parents, teachers and board members met for the Spring 2010 HCA Association Meeting. The meeting was called to affirm new board members proposed by the existing board, and review the budget for the 2010-2011 school year. Carol Mosley, a long-time school teacher, realtor and a member of the Tenstrike Community Church was unanimously affirmed to serve the school as a board member, as was Pastor Keith McCray, Associate for Youth Ministry at First Baptist Church of Bemidji.
Christian Connection was a Wonderful Night of Praise
The Christian Connection concert was held on April 30th at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Bemidji, starting at 7 PM. The concert highlighted our own Heartland students, under the direction of Mrs. Connell for music, and Mrs. Plotts for puppets, as well as Christian musical groups like "free Indeed" and the worship team from First Baptist. Phil from YourQ FM radio was our emcee. The audience had a chance to pray for him and a local team of 22 others who are preparing to minister in earthquake-ravaged Haiti.
Science Fair a Wonderful Event
A BIG “thank you” to all those who worked very hard to make our first combined “Science, Bible and Fine Arts Fair” a success. There was a very good write-up on the school as a result in the Bemidji Pioneer, which can be read online at the newspaper's website. The new education reporter did a great job.
Heartland Students Curl to Excellence
Former Heartland students Eric Johannsen (skip), Micah Johnson (third), and Brian Oakes (lead), teamed up with current student Joel Johannsen (second) to win the 4th Annual High School Bonspiel last Sunday, March 14. They have been curling together for about four years. Eric, Micah, and Brian are juniors at Bemidji High School.
Applebee's Breakfast Fundraiser a Blessing
Teachers, board members, moms, dads, students and the Principal (and Mrs. Principal!)worked hard together to feed approximately 250 people in two hours at the Applebee's restaurant in Bemidji. We met our fundraising budget for this event (yeah!!!). Under the coordination of Carla Mandrell at the door and Alyce Daline in the kitchen, the Heartland team worked like a well-oiled machine to greet, seat, feed and clean-up after enthusiastic guests who were pleased to help support our school.
