Work Day Made a Difference!

More than twenty parents and students came to Heartland last Saturday to help with a "deep cleaning" of our Heartland Christian Academy facilities as well as resurfacing of the ice rink and patching of walls. "This is the best turnout for a workday that I can remember," said Todd Wille, workday supervisor and former board member. Mrs. Eriksson, our HCA Volunteer Coordinator, was very pleased with the participation. A good effort was given by all the volunteers resulting in a school that impressed the teachers on Monday morning. Thanks to all who helped!

Christmas Program a Blessing

Under the able direction of Mrs. Sonja Connell, Heartland Christian Academy students presented the Gospel of the traditional Christmas story through vocal and instrumental music, and drama. The event, held at the First Baptist Church of Bemidji, was well attended, with good Christian fellowship following the program. Thank you, Mrs. Connell, children, parents, and staff! The welcome was offered by Jim Landes, one of the "founding fathers" of HCA.

Kindergarten Firehouse Visit

After several important lessons on fire safety, Mrs. Coffin's Kindergarten class was privileged to visit the Bemidji fire station. The students had learned about never playing with matches, staying "low to go" if there is smoke, getting out and staying out if there is a fire in a building, and "stop, drop and roll" if their clothes catch fire. Everyone, including several parent chaperons, enjoyed this important field trip. Thank you, Mrs. Coffin, for helping your students understand about the dangers and responsibilities of fire.

Night We Light Parade in Bemidji

Heartland Christian Academy celebrated the birth of Jesus Christ and 30 years of educational ministry in Bemidji with a float in the November 27th "We Light the Night" Christmas parade through downtown Bemidji. Many volunteers worked together to create a float that emphasized both the coming of Christ in the manger and the salvation by Christ at the cross. Several children were in traditional costumes, including the barnyard animals, and both children and adults walked the entire parade route handing out prizes as well as Heartland brochures.

Students Help Feed the Hungry in Bemidji

In cooperation with Marketplace Foods and local radio station KB101, Heartland students collected canned goods and other food items to help stock the shelves at the Community Food Shelf. Many boxes of food were delivered by children to the waiting van, which would be making stops at other area participating schools. Principal Dr. Robert Roach explained, "the Bible commands us to be generous with those who have a need. I am pleased that Heartland students have a heart of compassion and are willing to share their blessings with those who are hungry."
