Power Team Comes to Heartland
Heartland was blessed to have two members of the internationally famous Power Team share their Christian testimony as well as incredible feats of strength. These men and their other Power Team partners have spoken around the world with the clear message that Jesus Christ is the true source of their inner strength. They are sharing their message at First Baptist Church of Bemidji this week, as well as other local churches and schools. We are very thankful to the donors, and especially the Plotts family, who helped bring the Power Team to Heartland.
7th and 8th Graders Visit Logging Operation
Mrs. Johannsen's 7th and 8th grade class were hosted by the Moe family at a modern logging operation near Bemidji, less than 15 minutes from the school. Student Larissa Moe's father, Rick Moe, and her grandfather, Melvin, answered questions about modern logging techniques and demonstrated a state-of-the-art computerized logging machine that could take down a fifty foot red pine and turn it into a stack of cut, measured and stacked logs in less than 45 seconds. Students were amazed as the cutting arm was demonstrated, looking more like a sci-fi robot from the future.
First Snowfall Observed by Students
7th and 8th grade students in Dr. Roach's Bible class crowded the window in the library to see the first snow of the season: 9:45 AM on Thursday, October 8th! "It was coming down in big chunks," observed one of the students. Forecasters predict 1 to 2 inches this weekend. Parents are reminded to send their children to school with winter clothing for recess: today's "white stuff" is only the beginning!
Christian Calendar Fundraiser Starting Soon
Our calendars have arrived! Each Heartland family will be asked to help with selling these beautiful Scripture calendars. They make beautiful gifts, are not very expensive, and are an important fundraiser for our school. Many parents have said, "they almost sell themselves." More details will be coming next week. Bemidji area business coupon books are also available to sell. They make excellent gifts for people that live in the area. Dr. Roach confirms, "these coupons are excellent!
Students Pray at "See You at the Pole"
Heartland students were joined by parents, foster grandparents, teachers, staff and homeschool friends at the school flagpole to pray for their school, family, community and nation. The "See You at the Pole" program is recognized across the country as an opportunity for student-led prayer for the community and nation at both public and private schools. Several Bemidji area public schools participated, so long as the event was student-led and held before regular school hours.
